Newquay’s Wall of Colour: Mural Art Around Town

Newquay’s Wall of Colour: Mural Art Around Town

Newquay has always had a creative edge tucked between its cliffs, cafes, and coastlines. From surfboards to signposts, art is part of the fabric here and for us at Northshore, our shop wall has long served as a canvas that celebrates this spirit.

We’ve just unveiled our newest mural, and it’s one of our boldest yet: a bright, energised wave scene that captures the rhythm and colour of life on the coast. It’s the kind of mural that doesn’t just stand out, it fits in. Look past the paint and you’ll see the real thing just down the road, crashing onto the sand at Towan or curling in clean at Fistral.

This latest artwork was brought to life by the brilliant team at Mural Republic, whose brushwork has transformed the side of our building into something truly vibrant. The colours pop, the lines flow like swell, and the whole thing feels right at home in Newquay’s salty air.

A Wall with a Story to Tell

Our mural wall has seen its fair share of transformations over the years. It’s more than just a patch of bricks it’s a timeline of creativity, community, and change.

Some locals might remember our old Patagonia mural. It was once a bright and lively piece, but after years of weathering Cornwall’s best (and worst) conditions, it had become a little rough around the edges, a bit sun-faded, salt-stained, and wind-beaten. Still, it held character, and for a while, it stayed up as a quiet nod to what had come before.

More recently, we collaborated with EA Games to mark the launch of their free-to-play SKATE game. That mural brought a whole new vibe, gritty, playful, and full of motion. It gave skaters, gamers, and curious passersby something to talk about, and brought a slice of urban energy to our coastal setting.

Now, with the arrival of our new wave mural, we’ve returned to our roots — blending surf culture with bold expression in a way that feels true to Northshore and Newquay alike.

Newquay’s Outdoor Gallery

While we’re proud of the artwork on our own wall, it’s just one part of a much bigger creative movement happening all around town. Newquay has quietly become home to an ever-growing collection of public murals, adding bursts of colour and character to buildings, alleyways, and unexpected corners.

One of the most striking is the Net Maker Mural, a tribute to Newquay’s deep fishing heritage and the generations who worked with their hands and their knots. It’s a powerful piece, not just for its scale and detail, but for the way it connects the past to the present in a town that’s always evolving.

Then there’s the stunning floral mural on the Mount Wise car park. Bold, bright, and impossible to miss, it brings a touch of softness to the urban space, brightening the daily routines of locals and drawing the attention of every visitor passing through. These murals aren’t just decoration, they’re part of the town’s identity. They invite conversation, spark creativity, and remind us that beauty can live anywhere, even on the side of a car park.

As Newquay continues to grow, it’s this kind of art that helps shape the atmosphere of the town. It shows the creativity that thrives here, not just in the surf or the shops, but right there on the walls.

And whats more, If you have a skate Mural up it would be rude not to call in a few local groms to ride along side.
